Multi-Lane Roundabouts

Bigger, Faster, Larger volumes of traffic, but safe if driven with care.

Multi-lane roundabouts, especially for learner drivers can seem extremely daunting. But they needn't be!
Without a doubt they will have a larger volume of traffic on them most of the time as they tend to be on arterial routes of the UK roads.
The biggest thing to consider when you are approaching one is to be mindful of where you are going, fully understanding of the signage on the approach, ensuring you are in the correct approach lane and arriving at one at a sensible speed.

The vast majority of these roundabouts are now marked out as Spiral Roundabouts and have traffic lights at every entry point, which means you will be able to deal with each section one at a time.

Always be sure that should you be in the incorrect lane and you need to change lane, you MUST ensure that it is safe to do so. If it is not safe, leave the roundabout by the exit that your lane is taking you to , find a side road where you can turn around, rejoin the roundabout and then take the correct lane to your destination.

As you can see from the picture there are  lanes on the approach to this roundabout ( left side of the image).
Using the left lane (lane 1) as you enter the roundabout your only option is to take the first exit turning left.

For lane 2 approach you can also take the first exit left and you would join the new road in the right hand lane, or you can follow the road ahead and take the 2nd exit.

Lane 3 allows you to follow the road ahead and take exit 2 or go right and take exit 3. If you were taking exit 2 from lane 3's approach you would exit in the right hand lane into the new road.
